Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Because her father had left the family of Ford, they were taken care of by her mother, grandmother, and godparents. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford was intrigued by the field of acting during her teens and joined National Youth Theatre. After being accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it wasn't the ideal venue for her. Ford decided to apply instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was eventually offered an interview on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. as well as London's Burning. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate began to gain attention because of her stand-up comedic performances in 1996.
